How to Find the Gold Scarab and Increase Your Rune Gains

If you’re planning to farm Runes in Elden Ring, the Gold Scarab is one of the most useful items you can pick up. The talisman increases the number of Runes you receive from enemies, making every farming run more valuable.

Getting it does require a trip into the Abandoned Cave in Caelid, where you’ll have to deal with Scarlet Rot and a pair of Cleanrot Knights before you can claim the reward.

WHAT IS THE GOLD SCARAB?

The Gold Scarab is a talisman that increases Rune acquisition by 20%.

That makes it particularly useful when you’re farming enemies for large amounts of Runes. Instead of changing where you farm, the Gold Scarab simply makes the rewards from your existing farming runs go further.

For example, the five giants used in our early game Rune Farm normally provide 1,000 Runes each. With the Gold Scarab equipped, that increases to 1,200 Runes per giant.

WHERE TO FIND THE GOLD SCARAB

The Gold Scarab is found inside the Abandoned Cave in Caelid.

To begin the journey, head to the Smoldering Wall Site of Grace. From there, travel east until you reach the deep crevice separating you from the entrance to the cave.

You’ll need to cross the gap to reach the Abandoned Cave. Torrent can be used to make the crossing, although the area requires some care.

Once you’ve made it across, enter the Abandoned Cave and prepare for the conditions inside.

BE PREPARED FOR SCARLET ROT

The Abandoned Cave is filled with Scarlet Rot buildup, so this is one of the more important things to prepare for before attempting the area.

Preserving Boluses can help manage Scarlet Rot, while the Flame, Cleanse Me incantation provides another way to deal with the buildup if you have access to it.

The important thing is to keep an eye on your Scarlet Rot buildup and your health while making your way through the cave.

DEFEAT THE CLEANROT KNIGHTS

At the end of the Abandoned Cave, you’ll face the Cleanrot Knights.

The fight can be particularly dangerous because of the Scarlet Rot present in the area, so managing your health and buildup is just as important as dealing damage to the bosses.

Once both Cleanrot Knights have been defeated, you’ll receive the Gold Scarab.

WHAT THE GOLD SCARAB DOES

Once equipped, the Gold Scarab increases Rune acquisition by 20%, or 1.2 times the normal amount.

That means the item becomes increasingly useful as you start farming larger quantities of Runes. The more Runes you’re earning, the more valuable that additional 20% becomes.

For that reason, the Gold Scarab pairs especially well with dedicated Rune Farms.

PUT THE GOLD SCARAB TO WORK

Once you’ve obtained the Gold Scarab, the next step is to use it with a Rune Farm.

If you’re still early in the game, the Stormhill giant farm provides a straightforward option.
